Sanjay Dutt makes a formidable antagonist out of Adheera, all barbarian stillness and controlled fury, while Raveena Tandon brings a sharp political edge to Ramika Sen that keeps the film's power struggles from feeling one-dimensional. Raising the whole experience is Bhuvan Gowda's cinematography, which gives this underworld a scale and texture that puts it at the top of the genre. The gold mines feel genuinely infernal, lit and framed with an eye for grandeur that a lot of bigger-budgeted films never bother to earn.
